Children’s Medical and Dental Health: This morning children will wake up without health coverage, some of them may already be sick, others may need immunizations or simply a check-up. But few of them will get care. Their parents struggle to afford the medical bills, and they don’t have health insurance to help.
Did you know that the average cost of an avoidable hospital stay is about six times as expensive as the cost to insure a child? The cost of caring for uninsured children is soaring. But high ticket emergency room visits and escalated medical and dental conditions can be prevented by sustained, regular health care. For every dollar spent on preventative care for children, thirteen dollars are saved elsewhere in the healthcare system.
Oral health too is fundamental to overall health, and treatment and education helps build the confidence children need to excel in school and on the playground!
United Way is committed to ensuring that all children have health coverage and access to quality medical and dental care. However, we need everyone in the community working together to create a brighter future for these children. Investing in our children is probably the most significant step we can take to promote the health and well-being of our community.
